A win!

There is something rather satisfying about beating a local club. So AEGC’s 4-3 win over an always competititve Tytherington GC in the Archie Preston Mixed Foursomes first round was very pleasing. No doubt our ultra-quick greens gave them some grief!

The season begins

The 87th Opening Sides matches [Stuart Hall has played in most of them] took place in cold and wet conditions. Played a week earlier than normal, conditions were certainly not comparable to the shirt sleeve weather of last year.In fact that must have been the ONLY shirt sleeve weather last year.
There appeared to be an outbreak of John Daly style trousers, but it’s unlikely that Charles will be stocking these any time soon!. The President hasn’t played much golf for a year or more, so it was good to see him back and he’d picked a very decent partner in Max Penney.

“Deaks” received just a few comments about the choice of trousers!

Mr President’s Year off to a Flying Start

Congratulations to Mr. President, Chris Harrison; his carefully selected team of Vice Presidents for the annual match versus the Council, delivered a satisfactory win.  Mr. President was courteous in acknowledging the accolades at the post-match dinner.  While the result of 4-3 may look to reflect a keenly fought valiant contest, some of the scores tell a different story.  With this win under his belt, Mr. President is keenly looking forward to the Opening Sides match when he will be aspiring to attain another victory. Following the formal speeches, Honorary Member, Gordon Smith, entertained the diners with amusing anecodotes from his wide and varied repertoire; this rounded off a marvellous evening.
